Tasting Morellana Picuda
Morellana’s Picuda has aromas of apple, banana, almond and fresh grass. On the palate the entry is sweet and the pepperiness appears gently at the end, in an elegant, very pleasant whole.
It is a variety that surprises first-time tasters: it has the aromatic intensity of a great oil and the friendliness of sweet profiles.
Thanks to its balance, it pleases both those who prefer mild oils and those seeking complex aromas.
Picuda, the variety of the Subbética
Picuda, also known as Carrasqueño de Córdoba, is a traditional variety of southern Córdoba, named after the elongated, pointed shape of its olive. Morellana makes it in Luque, in the heart of the Subbética, from certified organic groves.
Without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, the grove keeps its ground cover and the life around it, and the olive reaches the mill with all its character.
Finding Picuda bottled as a single variety is not so common, as for years it was used mainly in blends. Morellana presents it alone so its sweet, aromatic profile, so typical of the Córdoba hills, can be appreciated.
How to enjoy Morellana Picuda
- Fruit salads.
- White fish.
- Baking.
- Roast vegetables.
Its sweetness makes it perfect for an orange and fennel salad, oven-baked white fish or an olive oil sponge cake. Raw, over roast vegetables, it leaves a very pleasant almond memory.
It is also a good choice for mayonnaise and mild sauces, where its sweet profile avoids any bitterness.
Morellana Picuda: the 500 ml bottle

The opaque white bottle protects the oil from light, and its garnet colour identifies it within the Morellana range. Half a litre is finished within weeks, the oil fresh.
It is sold on its own or in cases of 6, 12 or 24 bottles.
To get the most from it, taste it raw first, on bread or a simple salad, and then in the kitchen: a good oil shows as much when finishing a dish as when cooking over gentle heat. It is best enjoyed in the months after opening, while its aromas are intact.
