Tasting Oro del Desierto Lechín
Oro del Desierto’s Lechín has a mild fruitiness with hints of nuts and apricot, a combination rarely found in olive oil. On the palate the bitterness is delicate and the pepperiness light.
It is a friendly, original oil that surprises those used to better-known varieties.
Its sweet, fruity profile makes it very pleasant raw and especially interesting in baking and dishes with fruit.
Lechín, a little-known variety
Lechín is a traditional variety of southern Spain, less widespread than Picual or Arbequina and mostly used in blends. Oro del Desierto makes it on its own in Tabernas, from organic groves, so its personality can be appreciated.
Farming without synthetic chemicals and Almería’s dry climate give a healthy, concentrated olive.
Betting on a minority variety is also a way of preserving the diversity of Spanish olive groves, which hold dozens of local varieties with very different flavours. Each tin of Lechín is a small sample of that richness, rarely found in shops.
How to enjoy Oro del Desierto Lechín
- Baking.
- Salads with fruit.
- Mild fish.
- Fresh cheeses.
Its notes of apricot and nuts make it ideal for a sponge cake, muffins or a salad with fruit and walnuts. It also goes very well with white fish or a fresh cheese.
With a litre, it allows experimenting in the kitchen with a different oil and discovering new combinations.
Oro del Desierto Lechín: the 1 litre tin

The black tin protects the oil from light and preserves its delicate aromas. A litre gives enough for many recipes.
It is sold on its own or in cases of 2 or 4 tins. It should be closed tightly after each use and kept somewhere cool, away from the oven and direct sunlight, so its fruity notes of apricot and nuts stay vivid.
