Tasting Morellana Hojiblanca
This Morellana Hojiblanca is intense, with the variety’s herbaceous freshness and fruity background. On the palate it shows clear bitterness and pepperiness, giving it liveliness without losing balance.
It is a mountain Hojiblanca, more energetic than lowland ones, best appreciated raw.
Its intensity makes it a good choice for those who enjoy oils with presence and want more than a mild everyday oil.
Morellana, from Luque
Morellana makes its organic oils in Luque, a white village in southern Córdoba, in the heart of the Subbética, where olive groves climb limestone hillsides. It is a land of cool winters and dry summers that gives olives of great character.
The brand works each variety separately, in bottles of their own colour, so each oil shows its personality. All come from certified organic farming, without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.
The Subbética is one of Andalusia’s great olive-growing districts, with whitewashed villages overlooking a sea of olive trees. Mountain farming there takes more work than in the lowlands, but gives oils of much-prized freshness and complexity.
How to enjoy Morellana Hojiblanca
- Salads.
- Roast vegetables.
- Toasted bread.
- Vegetable soups, when serving.
A few drops over a freshly served vegetable soup, a pasta dish or toast are enough to notice its aroma. Its character also shines in a Córdoba salmorejo, where it adds freshness and a peppery finish.
With sautéed tender broad beans or an orange and salt cod salad, typical of the south, it shows its freshest side.
The 500 ml bottle

The opaque white bottle protects the oil from light and looks lovely on the table with its lime green colour, which identifies the variety within the Morellana range.
It is sold on its own or in cases of 6, 12 or 24 bottles. Half a litre is finished within a few weeks, the oil always fresh.
To get the most from it, taste it raw first, on bread or a simple salad, and then in the kitchen: a good oil shows as much when finishing a dish as when cooking over gentle heat. It is best enjoyed in the months after opening, while its aromas are intact.
