Tasting Set d’Oli Hojiblanca

A quarter litre of Hojiblanca introduces one of Andalusia’s most versatile varieties. Its fruity profile and soft bitterness make it ideal for anyone seeking a middle ground between the sweetness of Arbequina and the power of Picual.

Placed between the sweetness of Arbequina and the power of Picual, Hojiblanca is the variety of balance. It is a good choice for anyone who wants an oil with some character yet pleasant for the whole family, and its organic farming respects the hillside groves where it grows. On the nose it shows freshly cut grass and a hint of green banana, and on the palate a gentle bitterness and a peppery touch that appears at the end.

The Hojiblanca variety

Hojiblanca is the typical variety of southern Córdoba and northern Málaga, named after the silvery underside of its leaves. It gives fruity, fresh oils with a soft bitterness and a lightly peppery finish. It is used both for oil and for table olives, and is much appreciated by local millers.

Organic farming respects the vegetation growing between the trees, where birds, bees and other beneficial insects find shelter.

How to enjoy Set d’Oli Hojiblanca

  • Gazpacho and salmorejo.
  • Pulses.
  • Grilled vegetables.
  • Tomato salads.

It shines with a well-chilled gazpacho: a few drops on top when serving are enough for its herbaceous freshness to come through in every spoonful. It is also excellent for dressing warm lentils or a chickpea salad.
